Prairie Piece (2024)
Prairie Piece, part of Nasher Public at the
Nasher Sculpture Center, is a site-responsive installation
featuring looping video works, custom powder-coated steel enclosures,
a ramp, and a takeaway publication.
The project draws on my research into the landscape and ecology of
North Texas to explore the seemingly incongruous subjects of the
Texas Blackland Prairie, Robert Smithson’s unrealized proposals
for the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport (ca. 1966–67), and the legacy
of the George W. Bush administration.
Animations of Smithson’s unrealized airport proposal were based
on his writings and drawings and created in collaboration with
artist Taylor Shields. A short looping video features artist Tino Ward collecting trash in the Dallas Floodway.
